Join us Sunday Mornings @ 10am for Service. All are Welcome!
Jesus tells us that there are really only two “commands” that we need to follow: to love God and to love each other. We are to care and treat others the way we would like to be cared for and treated. We serve our Lord and Savior by going out into the world, going out into our local community to share God’s Love.
Richmond United Methodist Church has been a very active and dedicated supporter of Portland Upper Mt. Bethel Food Pantry since its inception in 1994. Our church supports PUMP financially through our weekly community mission collection known as the TIn Bucket Offering along with other monetary support throughout the year. Each Monday during food distribution, you can find our members volunteering their time to serve the families in need in our community. Our church family also provides gifts for children at Christmas through the holiday program that PUMP holds each year.
We support SFN by donating supplies to their monthly donation drives. This foundation provides services and support to families in the Bangor Area School District.
We created this fund using the proceeds raised from our yearly rummage sale held each spring as well as other proceeds from our sales of Richmond’s homemade ice cream and also member donations. The monies in this fund are used to provide emergency assistance for anyone in the community who has suffered a catastrophic loss and needs some help immediately.
This scholarship is a legacy bestowed upon RUMC by the late Joseph and Mildred Beers. The scholarship is open to church members who are poised to attend graduate, post-graduate, technical school, or any higher education. Scholarships are given out annually in late summer to those who meet requirements and apply. Applications and more information can be obtained by contacting the church office
Our Mat group has been meeting at Richmond UMC on a monthly basis since September 2017. This group takes donated plastic bags and turns them into sleeping mats for the homeless. It takes between 800-1,000 bags to crochet one mat. The group cuts strips from the bags, ties them together, and rolls the strips into “plarn” balls. The plarn is then used to single crochet a mat about 40” x 60”. Carry cases are made from recycled t-shirts.
To date Richmond has made 105 mats that have been donated to the homeless sleeping outside to help keep them off the damp or wet ground. These mats have been given to Safe Harbor in Easton and to the Salvation Army in East Stroudsburg for distribution.
Boys and girls from kindergarten through grade 5 (5-10 years old) are eligible to join. The Pack meets at the church on Thursdays 6:30-7:30 PM during the school year.
This troop is open to boys 11-18 years old. The troop meetings are Tuesdays 7:00- 8:30 PM.
Both offer many opportunities for outdoor events such as overnight camping, fishing, and hiking, as well as day trips to fun destinations. They participate in Scouting for Food supporting the Portland Upper Mt. Bethel Food Pantry as well as other community service projects. For more information, contact John Messina 610-417-0096.
RUMC has been home to the Richmond Lions since its formation in 1952. The Lions Club is a non-profit community service organization. The Club provides services to the church and many other local community organizations like the Jacktown Antique Steam Engine Association. For more information, contact John Messina 610-417-0096
